Having joined the School of Management at the
University of Bath in summer
2007, I am teaching in the areas of strategy and international
business on a variety of programs, including in spring 2009:
I have recently used, and can recommend, the following textbooks:
-
Nancy Adler's (2008) "International
Dimensions of Organizational Behavior", 5th edition,
Thomson-Southwestern.
-
Pankaj Ghemawat (2007): "Redefining Global
Strategy", Harvard Business School Press.
-
Robert Grant (2009): "Contemporary
Strategy Analysis", 7th edition, Blackwell.
-
Mike Peng (2009): "Global Strategic
Management",
2nd ed., Thomson-Southwestern.
In my teaching, I frequently use two case
studies that I prepared myself on businesses operating on the global
stage, GN Netcom and Novo Nordisk.
As Supervisor for Master
and PhD theses, I work with students on topics related to MNE's global strategies
and their local strategies in emerging economies,
especially Eastern Europe and East Asia. This includes
- adaptation of strategies to context in
emerging economies
- international market entry and growth strategies
- interaction of global and local strategies
- longitudinal studies of MNE growth
- Interaction of internationalisation and
diversification
- strategies of subsidiaries
- production relocation & offshoring,
- mergers & acquisitions,
- post-acquisition restructuring,
- post-privatization restructuring,
- spillovers from foreign direct investment
- comparative management
I am interesting in both qualitative and quantitative methods, and
encourage PhD students do combine multiple methods.
In 2005 to 2007, at the University of Reading, I have
been the director for Post-graduate Programmes
at the Department of Management,
convener for the module 'Comparative and Inter-cultural Management' and
supervisor for dissertations at various levels.
Previously, I have taught at other institutions, including
Copenhagen Business School, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology,
National Cheng-chi University in Taiwan, Baltic Management Institute in
Vilnius, Lithuania and
University of Göttingen in Germany. Most of my teaching has
been at Master level, and covered topics such as "International Business", "Business in Emerging Markets", "Strategic Management", "Business in the Eastern Europe Economies",
and "Economics of Transition".
